Facebook founder reveals ?amazing? early business advice

Facebook?s Mark Zuckerberg describes the best guidance he ever got on building a successful company.

In an hour-long interview with Charlie Rose, the Facebook co-founder dished on some of the advice Steve Jobs had for him as a young entrepreneur.?

Halfway through the interview, which aired the second week in November, Zuckerberg was asked whether Jobs had ever advised him about how to run or evolve his company. Zuckerberg?s response:

?One of the funny things is, when you agree with someone, you tend not to talk about it for too long because you just take it as an assumption ? [Jobs is] amazing. I had a lot of questions for him regarding how to build a team that?s focused on building high-quality, good things as much as you are ? how to keep an organization focused. I think the tendency for a lot of bigger companies is to try to fray and branch off into all these different areas. [We talked a lot about] the aesthetics and the mission orientation of companies. I mean, Apple is a company that is so focused on building products for their customers and users. And it?s such a built-in part of their mission to build these beautiful products for their users. I think we connected a lot on this level that, OK, Facebook has this mission that?s really about more than just trying to build a company that has a market cap or a value. We?re trying to do this thing in the world. And I think that [Steve] and I just really connected on that level.?

In an interview with biographer Walter Isaacson, Jobs claimed he had a great deal of respect for Zuckerberg, in that he wasn?t consumed with taking Facebook public as soon as possible. He felt Zuckerberg?s decision to continue molding the company into what he aspired it could be was crucial to its long-term success. While Jobs respected rival Bill Gates for all he?d achieved over the years with Microsoft, he also felt Gates ?lacked imagination.?
