I really do need a new generation three iPad and I would prefer to have one of those than the iPhone. It really does come down to the fact that I make very few phone calls and hardly ever send a text message. I could be very happy with a cheap feature phone and to carry an iPad 3 along with my MiFi. Better still would be to get the iPad with mobile connectivity built in, but then that is more money.
So will the solution be an iPhone 4 refurbished?
I think for the moment I will continue to keep breathing life into the present iPhone 3G that I have. I will put money aside for the purchase of new Apple hardware and make a decision about what that will be exactly at a later date. Maybe I will get lucky and see an iPhone 4 refurb on the Apple website store. I suppose there is always the possibility of second-hand, but I would really only preferred to buy somebody I knew had looked after their device really well.

Around 50 others, dressed up like the pop diva, performed a mob flash dance at a shopping mall in Jakarta to some of her biggest hits.
Hard-liners, however, were ecstatic.
"This is a victory for Indonesian Muslims," said Salim Alatas, one of the leaders of the Islamic Defenders Front. "Thanks to God for protecting us from a kind of devil."
Earlier, Murhali Barda, a spokesman for the group, said supporters had purchased more than 150 tickets to the concert.
He posted a picture on his Facebook page of a man hiding his identity with a turban and sunglasses and holding a $50 ticket to the "Ball."
"We have gotten Lady Gaga tickets," the caption said. "Not to watch but for us to enter."
"Our target is to stop the concert," he wrote, providing little more detail. "We would force them off the stage but not harm the audience."

WASHINGTON ??A Senate panel expressed its outrage Thursday over Pakistan's conviction of a doctor who helped the United States track down Osama bin Laden, voting to cut aid to Islamabad by $33 million ? $1 million for every year of the physician's 33-year sentence for high treason.
"It's arbitrary, but the hope is that Pakistan will realize we are serious," said Senator Richard Durbin after the unanimous 30-0 vote by the Senate Appropriations Committee.
"It's outrageous that they (the Pakistanis) would say a man who helped us find Osama bin Laden is a traitor," said Durbin, the Senate's number two Democrat.

The al-Qaida leader was killed in the town of Abbottabad a year ago in a unilateral U.S. special forces raid that heavily damaged ties between Islamabad and Washington. Since then, there have been growing calls in the U.S. Congress to cut off some or all of U.S. aid.
Senator John McCain, top Republican on the Armed Services Committee, said lawmakers had agreed to withhold certain military aid for Pakistan until the defense secretary certifies that Pakistan is not detaining people like Afridi.

Geneva, Switzerland May 25, 2012 Ministers of Health from 194 countries at the Sixty-fifth World Health Assembly today endorsed a landmark Global Vaccine Action Plan (GVAP), a roadmap to prevent millions of deaths by 2020 through more equitable access to existing vaccines for people in all communities.
The GVAP was coordinated by the Decade of Vaccines Collaboration, a group of leading international vaccine experts, and represents the collective vision of hundreds of global health stakeholders to extend the full benefits of immunization to all people, regardless of where they are born, who they are, or where they live.
Currently, four out of every five children receive at least a basic set of vaccinations during infancy that allow them to lead healthy, productive lives. However, this means 20 percent of children still do not benefit from basic immunization.
This comprehensive plan involves four mutually reinforcing goals: strengthening routine immunization to meet vaccination coverage targets; accelerating control of vaccine-preventable diseases with polio eradication as the first milestone; introducing new and improved vaccines; and spurring research and development for the next generation of vaccines and technologies. The plan is expected to reduce global childhood mortality, surpassing the targets of the United Nations Millennium Development Goal 4.
"The Global Vaccine Action Plan focuses on the health needs of people at all stages of life," said Dr. Flavia Bustreo, Assistant Director-General for Family, Women's and Children's Health of the World Health Organization. "The plan promotes greater coordination and synergies between immunization and other child, adolescent and reproductive health interventions leading to healthier communities everywhere."
"While immunization already prevents millions of deaths and uncounted illness, we cannot rest until life-saving, cost-effective vaccine technology reaches people in every community and every country through this global plan," said Dr. Ciro de Quadros, Executive Vice President of the Sabin Vaccine Institute and co-chair of the Decade of Vaccines Collaboration's Steering Committee.
Following today's approval by the World Health Assembly, the GVAP will be adapted for implementation at the regional and country level. Country involvement in this process reinforces a key tenet of the GVAP, which is to increase national ownership of immunization programs. The collaboration will also establish a monitoring and evaluation framework and finalize estimates for funding needs as well as potential cost savings.
"By supporting countries to strengthen their health systems and introduce powerful vaccines that prevent the biggest killers of children, we can have a dramatic impact on the lives of millions of people. We need to work together to make the vision of the Global Vaccine Action Plan a reality, and I am proud that GAVI will play its part in this," said Dr. Seth Berkley, CEO of the GAVI Alliance.
Innovation is a guiding principle of the GVAP beyond the vaccines themselves. The plan identifies priorities for improving program efficiency and increasing vaccine coverage. This includes the use of modern communication technologies for immunization programs; research to understand the cultural, economic and organizational determinants of immunization; and the development of diagnostic tools for conducting surveillance in low-income countries. The plan also focuses on building capacity and human resources in low- and middle-income countries to conduct research and development and operational research.
"We know vaccines work to save and improve lives," said Dr. Chris Elias, president of the global development program at the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation. "We must urgently work to reach all children with the vaccines they need."
Lending further support to the Decade of Vaccines, world health ministers also endorsed a resolution declaring polio a global public health emergency. The eradication of polio is a critical step in protecting all children from vaccine-preventable diseases and is an important early milestone in the Decade of Vaccines.
A large and diverse group of stakeholders representing 290 organizations including representatives and elected officials, health professionals, academics, manufacturers, global agencies, development partners, civil society, media and the private sector in more than 140 countries contributed their expertise to the development of the GVAP in a year-long consultation process.
"It is unacceptable that children are still dying from diseases that are preventable with existing vaccines," said Dr. Abdul Majeed Siddiqi, Head of Mission for HealthNet TPO in Afghanistan and Pakistan and Chair of the GAVI Civil Society Steering Committee. "This is an actionable plan across the discovery, development and delivery of vaccines - now we must all do our part to make it happen."

To do an exhaustive search for your ancestor, you should choose to search the Community Contributed IGI and follow the process outlined on this page to determine if the record you find was part of an indexed collection.?

Despite the arrival of many other record collections online, it?s still worth searching the IGI for your ancestors, but remember ? it is an index, and you should always check the original record, which may well contain more information.

You already know that the zombie apocalypse is a topic this blog takes very seriously. What you didn?t know is that a few seemingly simple board games can help you do some major research in anticipation of the inevitable zombie infestation. Today?s guest Lia, however, can teach us a few valuable lessons in this regard. Enter Lia:
Sometimes your friends can seem like great people.
Generous, kind, helpful and overall just nice.
Then you think to yourself ?Damn, what if there was some sort of zombie apocalypse and I need to fend for my life and survive with just a handful of people, would they help me out? Or would they screw me over??

These are some deep and important questions to ask, you don?t want to be the soft one getting eaten but you also don?t want to be the person who fights and survives, only to be betrayed by your best friend.
But how to figure this out?
Easy, play games with them!
Not mind games, obviously.
I?m talking about simple board games, family games, played by civilised people, sitting around on your nice oak dining room furniture and having wholesome fun.
Everyone knows, some games bring the worst out in people and here I have listed the top 3 board or social games that will forever crystallise who you could trust and who might be the first one to be ditched should the fury of the zombie army reign upon us.
Number 1 ? Trivial Pursuit
This game was supposed to be for the intellectual ones, those who want to win based on their broad knowledge about everything. Not only would you display your intellectual superiority but you would, if you were less endowed in the cranium department, definitely learn something.
But when it comes down to it, especially when you play in teams, anguish, wrath and smartarsery will come to the surface. Suddenly, it isn?t about the game anymore, it is about dignity, honour and the perks of fitting those tiny cheese slices into the triangles.
Here you will see people go through rage, god complexes and pettiness. Definitely not someone you want on your zombie fighting team, they would just question everything and make snarky remarks until someone loses it.
Number 2 ? Uno
Now this game, as fun as it is, brings out the sadist in most people.
There is nothing better than laying down a +2 card and trumping it with more +2 cards until it goes round in circle and the first person to lay it down ends up with half the deck.
Not only is it fun to win, but it is actually much more enjoyable to see others fail, and this applies to a lot of things in life unfortunately.
You suddenly become the queen of the game, holding the +4 card in your hand, you tremble slightly when you lay it down, and you can say the magical word? ?Uno?
Then when all goes well, you can lay the last card down, the prospect of winning awakes euphoria, saliva is collecting in the corners of your mouth and you feel giddy.
If you see people taking way too much relish from making others lose, you can be sure that in any given situation, especially in an apocalypse, they will switch sides, hunt you down and do the torture.
Definitely the first one to be ditched when the zombies creep closer.
Number 3 -Monopoly

Ahhh? Monopoly, the root and solution to all of human kind?s troubles.
This game almost never ends happily.
This game is the source of a lot of grief in families, including upturned tables, crying babies and door slamming.
Everyone likes to be successful and everyone has a capitalist streak to them. Suddenly it?s not even about winning, or losing, or seeing others fail. It is purely about destroying everything the other players have built, no mercy, no bonus, straight to prison.
This is when it gets serious. It?s a matter of life and death. Monopoly could be said to be the board game version of all evil in human nature.
The Monopoly board is almost like a mirror which reflects and shows you clearly that you, yes you, are part of the problem in which case, screw them all, let?s just get the hell out when you hear slow shuffling and unearthly groaning, every man to himself I say!
