Jack Freestone, Jean Da Silva and Conner Coffin prevail in Round 2 at Coastal Edge ECSC

Australia?s Jack Freestone, Brazil?s Jean Da Silva and America?s Conner Coffin emerged triumphant in their respective Round 2 (Round of 96) heats at the Association of Surfing Professionals (ASP) 6-Star Coastal Edge ECSC presented by Vans to advance to the third round (Round of 48) that went down at Virginia Beach in Virginia, America, on Thursday, August 23.

Hawaii?s Ezekiel, America?s Dillon Perillo and Hawaii?s Dege O?Connell successfully extended their life in the competition as well following a runner-up finish in their respective heats.

The shifty conditions on the latest competition promised a heavy dose of thrilling action as a heavily talented field continued to exchange blows, determined to keep themselves alive in the contention for the event title.

The seventh heat pitted Freestone against Lau, Australia?s Cahill Bell-Warren and America?s Balaram Stack in a four-man battle for the Round 3 spot.

The Australian surfer put on a phenomenal performance, utilising the onshore winds efficiently to post a 9.17 and 8.07 on the score-board, thus finishing with a heat-total of 17.24 points. The score held up until the end to see him through to a convincing victory.

?The waves came up a little bit, I?m guessing due to the tide, and that wind is so good for airs on your forehand,? Freestone said. ?I was just lucky to find the waves that I got.?

Lau accompanied him into the next round after securing runner-up position through a two-wave total of 12.13 points, whereas Bell-Warren and Stack rounded out the bottom-two position with a two-wave total of 11.66 and 7.97 points respectively, consequently getting eliminated from the competition.

The eighth heat saw Da Silva get the better of Perillo, Hawaii?s Dylan Goodale and his fellow countryperson Tanner Hendrickson, though just barely. The Brazil surfer registered a heat-total of 11.96 points to claim top honours.

Perillo finished in runner-up position through a heat-total of 10.50 points, whereas Goodale and Hendrickson finished with a two-wave total of 10.26 and 6.90 points respectively.

The ninth heat saw Coffin walk away with top honours after registering a heat-total of 10.50 points, whereas O?Connell had to settle for runner-up place with a two-wave total of 10.37 points. Both the surfers consequently headed into the next round of the competition.

America?s Nick Fowler finished in third place with a heat-total of 6.07 points, while France?s Joan Duru had to settle for fourth place after failing to show up for the heat.
